Apple Unveils iPhone 18 Pro and Its First Foldable iPhone Duo
The Pro models introduce variable aperture photography, while the $1,999 Duo brings two screens and a new multitasking experience.

At its September 9 event, Apple unveiled iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and its first foldable, iPhone Duo.
The Duo pairs a 5.4-inch outer screen with a 7.6-inch inner display, supports two apps side by side and includes side-button Touch ID. Apple Pencil with USB-C support is due later this year on both screens. It uses A20 Pro and is eSIM-only worldwide.
Its camera system includes 48-megapixel main and ultrawide cameras, plus an internal camera beneath the display. Apple says the Duo delivers up to 31 hours of video playback on its inner screen or 44 hours on the outer screen. Storage ranges from 256GB to 2TB.
For the Pro models, the headline camera change is a 48-megapixel main sensor with variable aperture. Adjusting the aperture controls incoming light and how much of a scene stays in focus. New manual controls also cover shutter speed and white balance, giving photographers more flexibility inside the Camera app.

Both Pro phones feature the A20 Pro chip, built using a 2-nanometer process, and a redesigned vapor chamber. Apple claims up to 40% higher sustained performance than the previous generation. iPhone 18 Pro also features an upgraded Dynamic Island, redesigned to be smaller, more useful, and even better for seeing live information at a glance. It can now show three live activities and help you keep track of multiple things at once, like your flight status with Flighty, navigating with Maps, or simply checking your timer.
Apple rates the eSIM-only Pro at up to 36 hours of video playback and the Pro Max at up to 45 hours. The Pro can reach approximately 50% charge in 15 minutes under Apple’s test conditions. These are manufacturer estimates; everyday results depend on usage. Colors include black, silver, glacier and burgundy.
Siri AI is another focus of the software experience. Apple describes an assistant that can retrieve information across personal apps, respond to questions about the camera view and help users write. A dedicated Siri app keeps conversations accessible across devices. Photo tools include Spatial Reframing, Extend and an improved Clean Up feature, while Safari’s Notify Me monitors pages for changes.
At the event, Apple said Siri AI would begin rolling out in English in beta, with Portuguese, Spanish, French, Japanese and Korean support coming in October. Some features will have usage limits.
