Wardogs Breaks Sales and Player Records Just Two Days After Launch
The latest action game from developer BULKHEAD has just launched in Early Access and is already breaking records on Steam.
The game, distributed by Team 17, debuted on Steam in Early Access and immediately ranked 3rd among Steam’s most-played games; According to Steam statistics, the game has over 346,000 concurrent players in the “Most Played” category and ranks No. 1 in “Top Sellers.” Estimates indicate that the game has already sold over 1 million copies during its Early Access period.
WARDOGS gives players more to think about than their next firefight. Its battles support up to 100 players, combining infantry combat, vehicles, destructible buildings, and player-built defenses with an economy that rewards helping your team. On maps spanning up to 256 km², the fight centers on a smaller objective area where getting allies into position can matter as much as landing a shot.
Developed by BULKHEAD and published by Team17, WARDOGS launched on PC through Steam Early Access on September 10, 2026. Its military sandbox offers a familiar point of reference for Battlefield fans, but the three-team format and persistent cash system give it a distinct set of priorities. WARDOGS on Steam.
How WARDOGS’ 100-Player Battles Work
WARDOGS builds its main mode around a variation on King of the Hill. Up to 100 players in total, divided among three competing teams, fight to control a designated area. The team with the most players inside that area earns points, and the first team to reach 100 points wins.
256 km² Maps and a 2 × 2 km Control Zone
The headline map size needs some context. WARDOGS features maps of up to 256 km², while the active Control Zone measures approximately 2 × 2 km. That zone is positioned randomly within the larger battlefield, concentrating the objective around a particular location for the match. Official WARDOGS gameplay overview.
That distinction helps explain the design: a large map provides the surrounding terrain, while a smaller scoring area gives teams somewhere specific to attack and defend. Changing the objective’s location creates a reason to reconsider approach routes, transport plans, and defensive positions between matches.

WARDOGS’ Economy Starts With $10,000
Every player begins their WARDOGS journey with $10,000 in virtual cash. Players use that money to purchase weapons, equipment, utility items, and vehicles, choosing a loadout for each life.
The economy rewards actions that contribute to the team. Reviving allies, transporting teammates, and controlling objectives all generate money. Cash also carries over between matches, connecting individual spending decisions to longer-term progress. Team17’s WARDOGS overview.
The starting balance is an initial allocation, rather than a promise of a fresh $10,000 at the beginning of every match.
That structure creates a practical question before deploying: how much should you spend on the current fight? A costly vehicle might help a team break through, while a more modest loadout leaves additional funds available for later. The intended incentive is clear—supporting the objective helps finance what you bring into battle next.
Destruction, Vehicles, and Fortifications Shape the Battlefield
Heavy weapons can destroy buildings, tanks bring armored firepower into the fight, and other vehicles support movement across the map. Players can also build and fortify strategic positions, giving teams tools to establish defenses as well as tear them down. Official WARDOGS feature overview.
Taken together, those systems suggest a contest over the terrain itself. A useful defensive position can become a target for heavy weapons; transport can help teammates reach the objective; construction can help a squad prepare to hold it.
The tactical appeal lies in deciding which tool a situation calls for—and coordinating with players who can provide the others.
What Makes WARDOGS Different?
Battlefield is a useful genre reference for the mix of infantry, vehicles, and environmental destruction. WARDOGS’ distinguishing pitch is how it connects that warfare to three competing teams, a concentrated scoring zone, and an economy that follows players across matches.
Three Teams Complicate Every Push
The three-team setup adds another consideration to an assault: committing heavily against one opponent may leave an opening for the other. The format puts an extra premium on timing: a successful attack can also expose a team to a fresh threat.
Proximity Chat Supports On-the-Ground Coordination
WARDOGS includes proximity voice chat, allowing local communication during battle. BULKHEAD positions the game as an alternative to battle royale and extraction shooters, with the emphasis on team objectives, communication, and decision-making. Official WARDOGS overview.
Its most interesting idea is the connection between those systems. A player who helps move or revive teammates earns cash, then uses that money to equip themselves for another contribution. Support work becomes part of the economic loop as well as the team’s immediate effort to win.

WARDOGS PC System Requirements

What the Performance Targets Mean
The minimum specification targets upscaled 1080p, so it should not be read as a native 1080p benchmark. Likewise, the recommended 4K target relies on upscaling, while the 1440p target specifies native rendering.
These are developer-listed performance targets. They are not independent benchmark results or guarantees for every match.
