Legacy of Valor, a medieval RPG that combines action and strategy, now has a big name in its cast: Hafthor Júlíus Björnsson, known for playing Ser Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane in Game of Thrones.

The actor will attend Poznań Game Arena (PGA) 2026, which runs from October 23 to 25 at the Poznań International Fair in Poland. The game’s main presentation will take place on October 23, with Hafthor joining the development team.

The studio will also have a booth throughout the three-day event, where visitors can learn more about the game. Fans will get the chance to meet the actor, take photos, and get autographs.

According to Black Banner Studios, visitors will be able to try two playable demos. The first will feature an updated version of the RPG experience, including its combat system and other mechanics. The second will focus on real-time battles involving thousands of soldiers.

Started by Filip Husák while he was still working alone, the project exceeded its crowdfunding goals on the Czech platform Startovač and later on Kickstarter. Its development led to the creation of Black Banner Studios, which now has more than 20 team members.

Combat, Conquest, and Kingdom Management

Legacy of Valor combines action RPG and strategy elements in a world inspired by 14th-century Europe.

In an approach similar to Mount & Blade, players take part directly in combat while commanding large armies. Away from the battlefield, they will be able to rebuild and expand their territories, develop the economy, and manage the resources needed to sustain their kingdom’s growth.

There is also an equipment crafting system where players gather raw materials to make weapons, armor, and other supplies. They will be able to use these items or trade the surplus with other settlements.

Why Legacy of Valor Caught My Attention

The more I read about the game and its development, the more curious I became about how its proposed mechanics would work. They are clearly ambitious, bringing several styles of gameplay into a single title. If implemented well, the game has everything it needs to become a major name in the indie scene.

There are games with crafting and combat, others with city or kingdom management and battles between armies, and others focused on large-scale combat, such as Samurai Warriors and Total War: Shogun. But a game that brings all these elements together is hard to find.

Personally, I really like the idea of developing my own kingdom, watching it grow, fighting other kingdoms, and crafting my own items. I would play for those elements alone, but the game goes further than that.

The game is scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2027. In my view, the team should release an early access version to raise funds while working toward the full release. It is a common practice among indie studios, and one I welcome when the team listens to player feedback.

I’m looking forward to the release and will be keeping an eye on further updates.
